I didn't do nothin!

"I didn't do nothin!" the old woman said

recounting her life as she sat in her bed.

"For eighty-five years, while the world fell apart

I did nothing wrong and I don't mean to start.

I minded my business. From sin I was free.

I obeyed every 'thou shalt not' rigorously!

"I didn't do nothin' when schools removed prayer.

I wasn't about to endorse such an error.

I didn't do nothin' as no fault divorce

collapsed every marriage (I saved mine, of course).

I didn't do nothin' as drugs ate the youth.

I never once touched them, and that is the truth!

"I didn't do nothin' as the unborn were killed.

It wasn't by my hand that their blood was spilled.

I didn't do nothin' as others grew proud

of their sexual perversion. Never ran with that crowd!

"When our courts decided that people could wed

with those of the same sex, I just shook my head.

I didn't do nothin' as schools started to teach

that the Bible was false. That's not what I preach!

As every new outrage brought every new curse

I promise you that I did not make things worse.

"I focused on family, was at their beck and call.

Did not interfere with my neighbors at all.

I indulged my kids. What they wanted, they had.

It cannot be my fault they turned out so bad.

"Yes, it sure is sad what the world's come to be.

But I didn't do nothin! You cannot blame me.

"And when I cross Jordan to stand 'fore the Lord,

I know He will grant me a glorious reward,

to enter forever celestial ease.

I didn't do nothin! Won't Jesus be pleased?"
